Top 10 Best Schools in Islamabad (2026): Curriculum, Campuses & Admission Guide
10 Best Schools in Islamabad
There is no single best school in Islamabad, but Beaconhouse, The City School, Froebel’s, Roots, Headstart and the federal Islamabad Model Schools & Colleges are among the most widely shortlisted options. The right pick depends on your child’s curriculum (Matric, Cambridge O/A Level or IB), your sector, your budget and the campus. This guide compares ten school systems and gives you a checklist to confirm fees and admissions directly with each school.

How this list was put together
This is an editorial shortlist, not an official ranking. No credible published methodology ranks Islamabad schools, so we have not numbered them by quality. The order below is simply for reading.
Schools were included if they are widely mentioned in school directories and education guides, have verifiable campuses in Islamabad, and offer a clear pathway such as Matric, Cambridge IGCSE/O Level, A Level or IB. Campus addresses were cross-checked where possible against the Islamabad private education registry (PEIRA), the British Council partner-school lists and the IB school directory.
Limitations: school websites could not be opened directly during this research, so some curriculum and stage details come from independent school directories and are marked as “listed”. We have not visited any school. Fees are not shown because we could not verify current fee schedules. Please confirm everything below with the school before you apply.

School profiles
1. Beaconhouse School System
Beaconhouse is a large private network. The PEIRA registry lists several Islamabad campuses, including Margalla (H-8/4), H-11/4 and Gulberg Greens at O/A Level, while other branches in F-7, F-8 and F-10 are listed at primary level. Because stages differ by branch, check which campus carries your child through to O or A Level. It suits families who want a branch near home and a long-established system.
2. Beaconhouse Newlands Islamabad
Newlands is in the Bani Gala hills. The International Baccalaureate Organization reports that it first offered the Diploma Programme in 2016 and was authorised for the Career-related Programme on 3 April 2023, making it the first school in Pakistan offering all four IB programmes. It suits families targeting the IB route rather than Cambridge. Fee and transport details were not available on the sources we checked. Read the IB school directory entry to confirm the programmes it is currently authorised for.
3. The City School
The Capital Campus on Pitras Bukhari Road (H-8/1) is registered with PEIRA as an O/A Level school. The City School is described as a Cambridge O and A Level system, with Matric offered at a few campuses. It is worth a look if you want the choice of Cambridge or Matric within one school brand.
4. Froebel’s International School
Froebel’s main campus is in F-7/2. Independent directories list Pearson Edexcel IGCSE, with A Levels through Cambridge or Edexcel, and additional campuses in Gulberg Greens and F-8. If your child is aiming for an Edexcel IGCSE pathway, ask the campus which board it uses for each subject.
5. Roots International Schools & Colleges
Roots lists campuses such as Wellington (Building 66, Street 7, H-8/4) and Winchester (Main Service Road West, opposite G-13/4). Its admissions page states that prospectuses and forms cost Rs. 1,400 at campuses (the page is undated, so confirm the current amount) and lists admissions from Montessori through AS/A Level. Another Roots campus is listed in E-11/4. It suits families who want a single system from early years to A Level.
6. Headstart School
Headstart’s Kuri Campus is on Street 1-A, with other Islamabad branches listed in F-7, F-8, F-10 and Gulmohar. Directories list Cambridge IGCSE and A Level, IB programmes and Montessori, but the pathway differs by campus. Ask each branch which programmes it runs, because not every campus offers the same stages.
7. Sheikh Zayed International Academy
Located in H-8/4, this school appears on the British Council partner-school list for the region. Directories list IB programmes alongside Cambridge IGCSE and A Level. It may suit families who want both IB and Cambridge options on one campus, subject to confirmation.
8. Pak-Turk Maarif International Schools & Colleges
The network has a boys’ campus at Chak Shahzad (on the British Council partner list) and a girls’ campus at Plot 87-88, Faiz Ahmad Faiz Road, H-8/1. A directory entry notes entry via the MAGIS test for some grades, but this is unverified, so ask the school. It is one of the clearer options if you prefer separate boys’ and girls’ campuses.
9. Westminster Academy / School & College
Westminster is listed with campuses in F-10/3 and H-8/4 and in Bahria Town, offering Nursery to A Level. Westminster Academy Islamabad also appears on the British Council partner list. Confirm which campus offers which stage.
10. Islamabad Model Schools & Colleges (FDE)
These federal public institutions are run by the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE). For the 2025-26 session the FDE notice listed ECE-I for ages 3-4, ECE-II/Prep for ages 4-5 and Class 1 for ages 5-6. Admissions are open to Islamabad Capital Territory residents and children of federal government employees living in Islamabad or Rawalpindi, and Classes II-IX depend on seat availability. The FDE has also opened HSSC-I admissions for 2026-27 and upgraded nine secondary schools to colleges from that session. Read the FDE admission notice for the structure of the process, but check fde.gov.pk for the current year. It suits families who qualify and want a low-cost public option.
Cambridge O Level and A Level
Cambridge pathways in Islamabad are commonly offered by Beaconhouse, The City School, Froebel’s, Roots, Headstart, Sheikh Zayed and Pak-Turk Maarif, according to directory listings. For A Level, ask three things: which exam board (Cambridge or Edexcel), which subjects are taught on that campus, and whether the school is an approved exam centre. Cambridge and Pearson both publish school finders where you can confirm centre status.
Matric and Intermediate
Several private systems offer Matric at selected campuses, so check FBISE affiliation for the campus you choose. For Intermediate, Islamabad Model Colleges offer HSSC-I through the FDE for ICT residents and children of federal employees. A 2023 ProPakistani report found that first-year admission fees at federal colleges varied by college, roughly Rs. 7,700-8,900 for the humanities group at the colleges it surveyed. Treat that figure as historical and check the current prospectus.
Affordable options
The clearest lower-cost route is the federal Islamabad Model Schools & Colleges, if your family is eligible. Among private schools, fees vary by campus and are often not published, so request the full fee schedule in writing, including registration, annual charges, exam fees and transport.
Schools by age group
- Early years: look for Montessori or early years sections close to home. Beaconhouse and Headstart list early years sections on several campuses.
- Primary and middle: check whether the same campus continues to O Level, since moving mid-way can mean a new admission test.
- Secondary and A Level: confirm subject choices and exam board before committing.
School selection checklist
- Total cost: tuition, registration, annual fees, exam fees, uniform, transport and trips.
- Distance and transport: time each way, route safety and bus availability.
- Class size and teaching quality: ask for typical class size and how teachers are assessed.
- Safety: entry security, child protection policy and emergency procedures.
- Learning support: ask what help exists for children with extra learning needs.
- Extracurriculars: sports, arts, clubs and debating.
- Curriculum fit: match the school to your child’s likely university path, and ask where recent graduates went.
How to verify current fees and admission requirements
- Open the school’s official website and find the admissions page for the specific campus.
- Email or call the admissions office and ask for the current fee schedule and admission deadlines in writing.
- Ask whether an entry test or interview is required and what documents you must bring.
- Check that the campus is registered, for example in the PEIRA registered institutions list for private schools.
- Visit the campus if you can and ask to see classrooms, labs and transport arrangements.
